Projects

«Roberta plus» – robotic days for school classes

Through ‘Roberta plus’, IngCH makes gender-sensitive IT lessons in the field of robotics accessible to school classes in cycles 2 and 3 across German-speaking Switzerland.

The project comprises workshops in schools, training for teachers, collaboration with industry partners, and the ongoing evaluation and further development of the programme.

The content is aligned with Curriculum 21 and promotes skills that are important in an increasingly digital world. IngCH is responsible for the organisational management of the project, whilst the Lucerne University of Teacher Education is responsible for the content.

Starting in Central Switzerland, “Roberta plus” will be gradually rolled out across German-speaking Switzerland over a five-year period. By 2029, the aim is to directly reach around 4,500 pupils, over 220 teachers and other key stakeholders. In addition, the programme will indirectly reach around 10,000 further pupils and 3,000 (prospective) teachers.

"Robotics in the Real World"

“Robotics in the Real World” supplements the Roberta learning environment with practical examples from businesses and institutions. The aim is to show pupils how robotics is used in everyday working life and which career fields it encompasses.

Two formats have been developed for this purpose:

On-site visits by business partners
Regional workshops with industry partners, teachers and universities

The first practical exchange took place at Lucerne Cantonal Hospital (LUKS). Together with specialists, the project leaders and Roberta teachers gained insights into the use of the Da Vinci surgical robot. These insights were subsequently incorporated into the Roberta learning environment as a practical example.

Further training for university staff and teachers

An important component of “Roberta plus” is the training and professional development of teachers. During the reporting year, one person was trained as a Roberta teacher at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. In addition, 25 students at the Lucerne University of Teacher Education completed a Roberta Scout training course as part of their studies and will receive the Roberta Teacher certificate upon graduation.

At the SWiSE Innovation Day 2026, the project management team ran the workshop “Dive into the city of the near future with Roberta” and provided interested teachers with practical insights into teaching robotics. Further training sessions are planned for next year, including some in collaboration with the Thurgau University of Teacher Education.

Robotics Days: July 2025 to June 2026

Many of the available places were already taken shortly after the registration form opened in early March 2025. The situation was similar in spring 2026, when Robotics Days for schools in the cantons of Lucerne, Schwyz, Zug, Uri and Bern were opened for booking. As of today (7 July 2026), of the total of 25 places available across the various cantons for 2026, only four places remain to be allocated.

Outlook for 2026/2027

Thanks to the established project management by the PH Luzern and IngCH, as well as the partnerships with other teacher training colleges that are already underway, “Roberta plus” will be further expanded in the coming financial year. Plans include, amongst other things:

Expanding the robotics days to at least 33 sessions and – subject to funding – offering further programmes in Eastern Switzerland.
Consolidating partnerships with the Universities of Teacher Education in Bern, Graubünden, St Gallen and Thurgau, and establishing cooperation with the PH FHNW.
Recruiting further teacher training colleges as project partners, in particular the Schaffhausen Teacher Training College.
Expanding the Robotics Days to other German-speaking cantons.
Organising the “Educational Robotics meets Robotics in the Real World” workshops to foster networking between universities, teachers and industry.
Continuation of initial and continuing professional development for university staff and teachers as part of “Roberta plus”
